I was working a full time job while searching for another way to make a living.
 
Between 1988 and 2005 I purchased numerous business opportunities,from how to make money in mail order to how to make money in real estate. I tried the Liquidation business calling business owners to find excess inventory to resale for a profit.
 
I started to make some progress but never closed a deal. You may have heard of 
SMC (Specialty Merchandise Company) I purchased their kit and catalog and just 
did not work the business consistently. I joined MLM companies and so many  
more but these were the ones that come to mind.
 
Although I never made a single dime with these businesses it does not mean money could not be made.
  
There was a lot I had to learn and it was much harder during the earlier years 
I remember the days when when we used MS Dos and AltaVista was the top search  
engine. That was a time when home businesses were not as respected as they are 
today. Advertising was done through newspaper ads, mail order, flyers etc. which is still a great way to get your message out.
    
One of the main ingredients I already had to becoming successful is (Never Give up) no matter how much money I did not make, not how much money I loss stopped me from trying.

I looked at the money I spent on business opportunities as lessons I learned. 
You can always learn a new technique, a new strategie, a new tool etc.
Finally I learned marketers at times will make a business sound easy and in
retrospect it is after you learn what it really takes to make the business
work.

You will hear people say “that business did not work” When in a lot of cases
they did not work the business".
   
  
Did you know that the only difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people do what unsuccessful people will not do.


Finally I purchased a $1500 real estate course in 2005 and started a small property services business helping homeowners prepare their homes for sale or rent. I did everything I learned from this course and some things I learned from past purchases like:  

·        How to set up a corporation

·        Run newspaper ads

·        How to find motivated buyers

·        Questions to ask on the phone.

I will never forget my first customer that I still keep in touch with.  I worked very

 hard on the first property and the others that came after. No I did not make millions
 but several deals between $5-8,000 were not bad.
 
I learned a lot about real estate and

 felt good that this time I finally made some money. After the real estate market slowed down I wanted to stay connected in this industry that is why I currently perform loan closings and property inspections.


In 2007 I started marketing online with Google Ad words. The first thing I did was purchased a book called  Google Ad words for dummies and  went straight to Google to ask questions for additional help.
 
Before long I was running campaigns paying $1.00 per click which helped my conversion ratio tremendously. I barely knew what I was doing but I was able to drive traffic to click on my ads.
 
No I do not recommend starting out with Google ad words because it can be very costly. Paying $1.00 per click is a high price I later learned how to run campaigns for a lot less. The keyword here is “I learned “take the time to learn techniques and marketing methods.

There is a lot to learn with online marketing and you can quickly go into information overload. Using my research abilities I am able to provide good free or low cost tools that people can use in their business. 

Around the same time I learned how to make videos this is a great way to show people “you and your product or service”. With video marketing I learned how to set up several YouTube channels and multiply my efforts which resulted in more friends and larger list which equals money in my pocket.   

There are numerous ways to get your marketing message out to your target customer. I chose to use video and classified ads this is what I felt comfortable doing. You need to find your comfort level “what marketing method you really feel comfortable doing on a daily basis  

It could be:

·        Posting in forums

·        Article marketing

·        Social networking

·        Keyword research (pay per click)


The lesson here is never give up. Even after I spent $100's of dollars on business opportunities, I did not give up the dream of having a home business. Continue  to educate yourself and put what you learned into action.
